DETECTION OF MICROORGANISM IN GROUND WATER AND ITS PURIFICATION BY USING BED COLUMN METHOD

With the advancement of technology, water purification can be done by various methods but the cheapest method is still in research by scientists all over the globe. Water purification has been done by filtration, by addition of chemicals, sedimentation, distillation, reverse osmosis, etc., but here we are focused on purifying ground water in which the window of purification techniques has already shortened up. Now a days, there is a common problem with ground water and i.e. ground water contamination. Industries and other factories dump their wastes on the ground and also in water bodies which kind of seeps down through the soil and the microbes which are invisible to the naked eye, is too small to be filtered by the various layers of rocks present above the ground water. There is a way in which these microbes can be killed in an instant and that is by the process of UV radiation but that makes the water unfit for use. So here charcoal, silica and a mixture of the two components are used to create a bed column through which the ground water has been filtered to decrease the microbial contamination in the water sample. This process is cheap and can be used in a large scale also in a cost effective manner.
